Cortex BlockChain | ZkMatrics Overview

Cortex is a peer-to-peer, open-source, decentralized blockchain platform based on Ethereum that supports the uploads and executions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models over a distributed network. It is the first decentralized autonomous system capable of executing AI and AI-powered DApps (decentralized applications) on the blockchain. The contracts run as the protocol on blockchain because they are like regular contracts. 

Cortex aimed to resolve the problem with the Cortex Virtual Machine(CVM), which seeks to allow efficient machine learning on the context blockchain. The platform authorizes machine learning models integrated into smart contracts and DApps. Besides, the developers use Solidity and off-the-shelf AI models to create AI-enhanced DApps.

Cortex (CTXC) Founders 

The two developers, Ziqi Chen and Jia Tian worked on this project and founded the CTXC token. As Principle Research Scientist at SFTC, Chen was responsible for developing innovative technologies, and Tian was the architect of large recommendation systems at Baidu and Alibaba.

CVM is compatible with EVM with more support for an on-chain AI interface, which uses GPU instead of CPU to execute discrete AI models on the Cortex blockchain.

What is ZkMatrics? 

ZkMatrics is a Cortex lab-powered Layer 2 solution for EVM-compatible blockchain that aggregates batch transitions on the side change into one transaction on the main chain using zkRollup. It aims to increase transactions per second and decrease the Endorphin fee consumed by each transaction. 

ZkMatrix inherits the security and agreement of different aspects of a particular chain and focuses on transaction efficiency. During cyber attacks or malfunctions, customers can restore the state of the side chain depending on the data in the main chain. 

It has three modules, ZkWallet (front-end), ZkNode (side chain), and ZkProver. Here is the complete process performed by these modules.


The work of ZkWallet is to send a transaction to ZkNode for aggregation, and the status changes from ‘queued’ to ‘committed’. Next, the ZkProver submits an aggregated transaction to the min chain by generating a circuit proof and changing the status ‘verified’.

ZkProver uses GPU & CPU to reduce the required time to generate proofs and supports multiple provers on ZkNode. ZkMatrix can support transactions of more than 2000 TPS in just five seconds. After sending data back to the main chain and for more security, the estimated time is 60 seconds.
